Essay submissions should speak to the resilience of a people who utilized some of their most valuable assets to rise above obstacles. Participants are to submit works that honor Black entertainers, artists, writers, justices, activists, leaders and visionaries, etc. Submission Deadline - Feb. 14, 2025
Winners should be prepared and willing to read their essay on air with WGLT News should they be selected. Winners should also be prepared to have their professional photos taken for City of Bloomington and media promotion.
Winners will be notified via email and announced February 22nd. Awards and prizes will be distributed the following week.

Essay length guidelines:
Elementary (Grades 4-6): 350-500 words
Middle School (Grades 7-8) 350-500 words
High School (Grades 9-12): 500-700 words
